tldr is an interesting visualization and navigation system that allows users to quickly browse and scan threaded comments on a website.
I’m not a huge fan of the visualization — showing a tree diagram which primarily highlights the top rated threads is great for starting at the top rated threads, but it encourages the usual power curve of top comments getting the most attention. The main problem in comments being that a low rated comment may be a good one that missed the initial wave of activity, or may be nested deeply in a thread.
The text summaries seem to be better. If I’ve understood this right, the summaries display auto-generated “tags” which highlight top terms used in the thread.
