Verizon’s iPhone - Shawn Blanc →
minimalmac:
Shawn provides the best brief overview I have seen of today’s Verizon iPhone announcement. I see lots of people getting all jazzed up about the “mobile hot spot” feature but here is an important note:
And while the mobile hotspot is a great feature, on Verizon’s CDMA network you can’t use data and voice simultaneously. If you’re broadcasting an internet connection with your Verizon...

Think of it from Apple’s point of view: people probably attempt “repairs” on their iPhones and laptops all the time when they shouldn’t — like if they’re unable to do it carefully and properly, which is true for _almost everyone_ — and then they go to the Apple Store, complain that it stopped working, and demand a free replacement.
A very real...
the new WebM dilemma
If only there was a hosted web service that could take any video we owned, convert it into various flavors of H.264 or even WebM, intelligently serve it to desktops, iOS, and mobiles either as straight files or wrapped in Flash, even, and give us complete viewing and playback metrics on it while at the same time provide social components as well. #youtube

Solar Panel Maker Moves Work To China - NY Times →
See, it’s all still the bankers’ fault.
In a telephone interview in August, Mr. El-Hillow said that he was desperate to avoid layoffs at the Devens factory. But he said Chinese state-owned banks and municipal governments were offering unbeatable assistance to Chinese solar panel companies. […] China’s real advantage lies in the ability of solar panel companies to form partnerships...

Warren recalls that it was the promise of copulation that coaxed him away from his previous activities, and is thankful that Nate knows a way to satisfy these urges.
Nate quickly finds the women who earlier crashed their car on Nate’s account. He remarks to one that he is fond of her physical appeal. The woman, impressed by Nate’s singing ability, asks...

“Sarah Palin has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district and when people do that, they’ve gotta realize there are consequences to that action.”

How about that Rdio Desktop app?
What isn’t there to love?
It doesn’t work at all unless you first open rdio.com in a web browser.
There’s no command to launch the external player on rdio.com — you must do this manually.
Opening the app does not automatically switch current playback away from the browser.
The app waits ~5s to resume playing when you close the browser.
Seriously, though. This thing needs to...

Twitter Blog: Twitter for Mac →
Twitter is proud to introduce an appropriately slick and simple desktop application for Mac computers. Twitter for Mac has launched today as part of the Mac App Store.
Bleh. Twitter for Mac isn’t a client so much as it is a remote for twitter.com. It’s still Echofon for me.
UPDATE: Oh snap, it has Magic Trackpad gestures. Fine, I’ll give it another shot.
