IOGear Support Chat
You: I am having a problem with the GBU421 bluetooth installer on XP SP 2, it *only* installs "Microsoft ODBC Drivers" and does not open the Widcomm installer as shown in the manual. I have used both installers off the CD and from the website
Iogear7: OK, remove the bluetooth adaapter and uninstall the driver.
You: uninstall what driver
Iogear7: Bluetooth driver.
You: but the problem is that it never installed. where would I do this?
Iogear7: Go to control panel >> add/remove program >> find Widcomm from the list and remove it.
You: OK I am looking at the list and it is not there
Iogear7: how about IOGEAR from the list?
You: Nope
You: not in the list either
Iogear7: OK, it means that thedriver is not installed.

Apple gets broad multi-touch patent →
Via Daring Fireball:
Given the state of software patent law in the U.S., I don’t blame Apple or any other company for pursuing the broadest patent claims they can. And just because they hold an apparently broad patent doesn’t mean they’re going to use it as a weapon. Here’s to hoping they don’t.
I hope they don’t either, but let’s remember two things:

A software engineer who wrote what he calls a “terrible” and “crap” app in less time than it typically takes to eat lunch has since watched it shoot to the top of Apple’s App Store, where it’s now generating over $200 an hour despite being a free download.
iPhone developers begin to realize that they aren’t somehow immune to the realities of the...

[Edited 1/20] Except if they are using Fox News’ feed of the ceremony. Then it’s easy to dislike them.

I can’t tell you how it warms my heart that these guys are still on 33rd St.
Verizon facepalm (reblog)
Me: It looks like from the bill you guys just sent me that you're having trouble charging it to the credit card on file.
Verizon operator: This is your husband's account.
Me: Yes.
Verizon operator: Well, you are not authorized to make any changes on this account as you are not the account holder.
Me: Look I just want to give you money, pay this, so can you just take this credit card # down and charge this bill to it. I'm assuming the card on file expired or something.
Verizon operator: Yes, I can charge THIS bill to it, but as far as permanently attaching this card to pay for this account going forward, I must speak with your husband, the account holder. You are not authorized to make changes on the account. Only the account holder, in this case your husband, can make changes like that on an account.
Me: You said that.
(Moment passes as he charges credit card.)
Verizon operator: OK. You're bill has been paid. You're good there.
Me: Thanks.
Verizon operator: By the way, here's the toll-free number your husband can call to attach a new credit card to pay for this account; to again set up the auto-pay on his account.
Me: (incredulous) And this is a number to an automated system?
Verizon operator: Yes, Ma'am.
(I hang up, call the automated fucking system, punch in the new credit card numbers and attach the new card to this account to pay the bills going forward. Thanks Verizon for fucking jerking me around and then letting a computer take down all the information from an "unauthorized person". You guys are SMART!)
